Adding embroidered fleece clothing to the shopping list?
Before providing embroidered fleeces to your team, as with the polo shirt and any other clothing you might consider, it is important to remember that there are numerous choices to be made.

Over and above the design of logo and whether or not to personally identify each item for your people there are questions of:
- material/weight
- design/style
- and not least colour
The required material, weight and design or style of the fleece to be embroidered depend primarily on the intended use. Obviously, fleeces are designed to look good while keeping the wearer warm either in colder outdoor weather conditions or for indoor use when the wearer is working in cool rooms or in and out of freezer rooms. The choices of material and weight for fleeces are:
- Micro-fleece - thinner, tighter weave.
- A synthetic knit fabric with pile on one or both sides. Micro-fleece has many of the same features as the looser pile fleece (see below). The difference from a looser pile fleece is that a micro-fleece is comprised of very fine, micro-filament, fibers. Thus, a micro-fleece fabric will result in a finer fabric, lightest in weight, and generally softer.
- Looser Pile - also know as the Polar Fleece - a thicker, heavier weave
- This type of fleece is also made of synthetic knit fabric with a pile on one or both sides. Typically made from thicker filament or spun polyester fibers. Fleece can vary in softness, thickness, density, weight, pile height, and ultimately look.
Other attributes to consider when looking at using fleeces are:
- Lined fleece (or not) these can come either as a standard, lined fleece for extra warmth, or a reversible-lined fleece (normally waterproof nylon) for outdoor activities where rain is likely!!
- Half, quarter or full zipped - Whether you choose a half, quarter or full-zipped fleece, really depends on the function you are performing. Full-zip styles tend to be preferred for workwear, mainly due to the ease of removing the garment. Quarter or half-zip styles are generally used for more formal or promotional occasions.
- Wind proofing / water resistance
- Drawcord or elasticated waist
- Collar Style
- Pockets - number, style, zipped or not
- Cuff Style
- Hooded
- Hi-visibility
- Bodywarmer/Gilet
- Ladies or Gents style
Fleece decoration
Regarding the decoration of fleeces, it is only really practical to embroider onto them. Due to the length and uneven spec of the fleece material, any print or transfer appears rough and non-uniform and doesn't look professional.
